The Odyssey · Plate XXVII

The trench and the sword

The shore of Ocean, in the land of the Cimmerians, where the sun never shines. Circe has given exact instructions: dig a pit a cubit square, pour the three libations around it, milk with honey, sweet wine, water, and cut the throats of a black ewe and a black ram above it.
