The book

The Odyssey

Odysseus takes ten years to get home. This book follows that return plate by plate, from the wooden horse at the gates of Troy to an olive-wood bed that only two people in the world know about.

The large-format illustrations move through the scenes the poem fixes in place: the red-hot stake in the Cyclops's eye, the bag of winds opened within sight of Ithaca, the companions turned into swine in Circe's palace, Scylla's six necks over the deck, the dog Argos wagging his tail on the dung heap, and the arrow that flies through twelve axes in a row.

Each image comes with a short passage from the text that holds it, so the sequence reads like the voyage itself: from the open sea to the threshold of home, from the monster to the man recognised by a scar.

The images in this book were generated with artificial intelligence and selected and reviewed by a person.
